Before we left Canada, I tweeted that we were vising London, roughly where we were staying, and requesting restaurant recommendations. Shortly thereafter, I received a tweet from Chisou, a restaurant I did not know, asking where we'd eaten. Since we had just arrived in London when I received it, the answer was 'nowhere ... yet.' But after numerous tweets back and forth, everything all arranged for my husband and I to visit the aforementioned Chisou at their Mayfair location (they have two other locations, Knightsbridge and Chiswick).
We started with the Hortenso salad, a chrysanthemum flower of baby spinach leaves topped with spicy prawns and delicately shredded carrot. The Yuzo vinaigrette was sweet and tart at the same time, complementing all the flavours in the salad. The unami was buttery and moist, not fibrous and dry like some I've had. If you have the chance, you must have the fatty tuna!
We finished off with ice cream in rice paste. Each bite was an intense burst of the intended flavour - mango, green tea and raspberry. A perfect ending to a spectacular, and reasonably priced, meal.
One note of caution, we reserved for an early (6:30 pm) dinner and I'm glad we did. By 7:30 the place was packed with an enthusiastic and festive international crowd that made conversation with my husband just a bit more challenging. Ah, the price of a successful restaurant!
